Water helps earthquake-ravaged Earth to heal

Water helps earthquake-ravaged Earth to heal - earth - 10 April 2007 - New Scientist Environment

Basically .. this water, they are talking about, is chemically part of the rock. However, in this unique case, it is under such incredible heat and pressure, it behaves as a gas and moves quickly. From what I have heard before ... water itself, doesn't exist below 2000 ft. ... the pressure is so great, it would in effect, squeeze it out .. and/or it would chemically, become part of the rock.
