NASA Prepares for Return of Interstellar Cargo

NASA Prepares for Return of Interstellar Cargo

The sample return vehicle will enter Earth's atmosphere at somewhere between 26,000 - 28,000 mph, making the return, the fastest for any man-made object ever recorded. I saw on NASA-TV today, where they have run all sorts of simulated landings, and they expect that the aerogel, in the many different segments, could survive even a hard landing, with no parachutes deployed.

Laboratory mice with part-human brains are created by scientists

This text will self-destruct in 40 seconds | CNET News.com

Can't see as how this would ever be a totally secure method of passing messages. It seems like hackers would figure out a way to capture any displayed plaintext, even if it were only visible for a short duration. I can understand how the technology would prevent the message from being stored on the recipient device.

Burn Baby Burn: HP LightScribe Lets You Burn and Label CDs and DVDs

DigitalJournal.com - Digital Culture For Creative Minds

Neat technology, LightScribe .. the special DVDs and CDs are kind of expensive at roughly a dollar or so a piece. I never would have imagined that it would take 27 minutes to burn a high resolution image per disk, or about 7 minutes to do one in draft mode.

The BenQ DW1625 Lightscribe burner gives you the technology at a better price point.

NEC has a competing technology called Labelflash. Read about it HERE.

Yahoo Updates Messenger's Phone Features

PCWorld.com - Yahoo Updates Messenger's Phone Features

One cent a minute to anywhere in the U.S. sounds pretty good. [Phone Out] It appears they are trying to give Skype and eBay a run for their money. You have to prepay in multiples of $10 OR $25, but the minutes last forever.

Their flipside service called "Phone In" costs $29.99 a year, but would be an awesome service, if you had say, a child in college hundreds of miles away, or a friend or business communications need, at a similar distance ... then you can subscribe to Yahoo "Phone In" and have a local phone number in that location. Then the people calling you from that location, can simply make a local call to reach you.

Dog Genome Mapped, Shows Similarities to Humans

Dog Genome Mapped, Shows Similarities to Humans

It now turns out, that humans and dogs share 5% of their genome sequence, and humans and mice share 5% of their genome sequence. The wonderful thing about this decoding of the dog genome, is that since dogs and humans have some of the same diseases, such as cancer, there is a possiblity of using the inception of these diseases in dogs as a model for similar diseases in humans.
