ConAgra revives Redenbacher for popcorn ads

ConAgra revives Redenbacher for popcorn ads - USATODAY.com

I must admit that I found it a bit creepy recently when I saw a TV commercial, where a figure came on, in the midst of a group of people, and announced ... "I am Orvil Redenbacher .." ... creepy, because I knew immediately that Orvil Redenbacher died 11 years ago, and also because I recognized the odd-looking figure was a CG creation, standing between real actors.
This was a trip into the "Uncanny Valley" and might have been better served as a animated cartoon. The synthesis isn't quite there yet, and the non-human-ness of the character, is a bit too much to take.
Having said that ... I really look forward to the day when "good" CG animations of deceased actors and historic figures make their way into film. I would thouroughly enjoy seeing a tastefully done new sitcom featuring Lucile Ball, in current surroundings.

VOA News - Hubble Telescope Shuts Down, Loses Most of Main Camera

Sad News ..... Even though at first blush, they seem to indicate that the Shuttle repair mission, in a little over a year, will be unable to fix this problem ... perhaps by then, they can think of some way of repairing the Advanced Camera for Surveys, OR they can come up with an additional Shuttle mission to make the repair.

Robot nurses ready for wards 'in three years'

Robot nurses ready for wards 'in three years' | News | This is London

I was keeping vigil overnight, on the third floor, at a hospital here in the US (Georgia) back in December, 2006 ... and I heard this beeping coming down the hallway, around 5 or 6 A.M. ... I opened the door after it passed, and was surprised to see a robot on its way to the nurses station. I then recalled reading in the paper about the hospital purchasing such a robot to distribute meds from the pharmacy, along with ferrying papers, etc. ... One of the nurses told me, that the robot will wait politely for the (service/staff) elevator to be empty, before it will enter. It will not go inside if one of the staff is already on board.
While not as advanced as the ones mentioned in this article, it shows that robots in hospitals, are already making inroads.

Scientists reveal how world's worst flu killed victims

Scientists reveal how world's worst flu killed victims | Special reports | Guardian Unlimited

It now looks like the 1918 flu virus that killed over 50 million people, was so virulent because it triggered a "cytokine storm" in it's victims. This explains the puzzling effect of it killing so many people that were healthy and in the prime of life. The virus turned their own body's immune system against itself. This is very similar to the recent immune system fiasco that happened in London, that came so close to killing those six test subjects.

First Triple Quasar Discovered

CCNmag.com: First Triple Quasar Discovered

The odds are 1 in 200 Trillion, that these quasars could be arranged within 160,000 light-years, of one another. This tells you something about how more tightly-packed, the early Universe was, and about the violent interactions of those galaxies that were in close proximity to one another. These quasars are actually the supermassive black holes, that inhabit the center of a particular galaxy. They put out phenomenal amounts of light, based on matter interacting, being accelerated into, and devoured by the black holes.
