Could Earth survive the Sun's demise?
New Scientist Breaking News - Could Earth survive the Sun's demise?
This question raises a lot of interesting possibilities. Could we transit huge populations between the stars? .. And if so ... Wouldn't this involve similar technology for surviving the demise of our own sun, Sol.
And something I've been contemplating a good bit in recent times ... Are there Rogue Planets moving through the void between stars? Leftovers from stars that supernovaed ages ago, or that were torn away from their burned out host stars, from gravitational interactions with other stars, or even galactic collisons?

"Could Earth survive the Sun's demise" I'm thinking NO. Not unless you consider a barren rock without an atmosphere, surviving.
Man! Thanks to COMMENT SPAMMERS I now have to type in a word verification every time *I* respond to a legitimate comment ... Sheesh! ... Anyway ...

This is really talking about billions of years in the future ... The Graphics Cards will hopefully be VERY ADVANCED at that point..
;-) ... tech too ....
Anway, I kind of did a logic leap over the "Earth survive" part, and was thinking about Earth's inhabitants surviving. Way in the future, the Sun is supposed to swell to a Red Giant (I think) and engulf Mars and Earth both, IIRC .. it's been a long time since I read up on it.
That far in the future, we might have figured out how to terraform some of the moons of the gas giant planets, and they might be in a temporary habitable zone.
THEN at the point when our sun finally burns out totally, we would need some tech that would be equivalent to surviving an interstellar voyage. No sun for warmth or energy.
Then again, that far in the future, hopefully we will travelled to, and colonized many star systems.
Because ... if there is "nobody" out there ... then I figure it all belongs to us anyway ... :)
