I don't understand this one. What is so magic about "seeing" UV light that allows navigation? The source of UV light is the sun, the same as infra-red and visible light. This source changes position by the day of the year and the hour of the day.
Not sure ... but I think it might be a polarization type thing, where the sun would be, say .. "North" .. and you would get a diminishing thing, going in both directions, away from "North" that would in effect give you a compass wheel for ALL directions .. Therefore if Mexico was "SouthWest" you just always keep going "SouthWest". The beauty part, is that this would work even when clouds blocked the sun.
